25 Years of APSCO Leadership
June 2024
Delighted to be part of APSCo’s 25th anniversary celebrations, joining many of the great and good of the recruitment industry.
APSCo, under the brilliant leadership of founder Ann Swain, has been a beacon for the industry for a quarter of a century.
APSCo sets high standards for the sector, gives firms a voice at the policy table, helps companies navigate new legislation. Market intelligence, events, networking, training and development. EDI, and more. In during Covid many businesses relied on the communications from the APSCo team in those unprecedented times.
When I founded Sellick Partnership in 2002 we soon joined APSCo as I realised we needed its help as our business and reputation grew. Since then I’ve sat on the APSCo Executive Committee on two separate occasions for 3 years previously and APSCo’s influence on me, Sellick Partnership and the wider industry has been unparalleled.
Throughout Ann has been the figurehead. The driving force. To all that know her, she is a charismatic and devoted individual, totally committed to enhancing the sector and inspiring best practice. The teams, people like Moya Rylands and Rina Durban, know their stuff too. A big thank you to them for all they've done over past years.
The industry has changed a lot over the past quarter-century – technology, expectations, the rise of Gen Z, the normalisation of WorkFromHome. Plus there’s been a global financial crash, several recessions, Brexit and a pandemic to deal with.
Today the recruitment industry contributes around £45 billion a year to the UK economy - yet it does not get the recognition it deserves. There’s lots of really good businesses out there, matching people and jobs with real skill and expertise. They’re an unsung part of our economy, creating careers and prosperity for individuals and organisation alike.
APSCo is a vital voice for the sector and needs to be listened to by all sides to help ensure our industry is both recognised and able to contribute fully to our national future.
